My Mother has just got a hearing aid and it is amazing the change that I have seen in her. It is amazing how hearing aids can do so much, but they seem to have given her a whole new lease of life. She has started going out again, which is something she did no do before. She said that she could never hear what other people were saying so she would rather not be in too much company. Family was okay for her as they knew she had problems hearing and so made sure that sat close to her and spoke clearly. However, going out to bingo, luncheon clubs and the like was just not an option for her before. Now she is out at something every day, which is fantastic. She has already made a bunch of new friends and she even went to the cinema with one of them the other day. She wouldn’t even travel on a bus before as she could never hear the driver and she was frightened of even crossing the road because she couldn’t hear the traffic coming. I am so pleased for her and only wish that we had managed to persuade her years ago that she needed a hearing aid but she would not have it. She didn’t think that they worked very well, as she had a friend who probably had a dud one, that just didn’t work. This put her off completely and she just said they were fiddly and not worth the hassle. I guess there is no point in regretting the past, at least she is now having great fun and getting out and about again. So much so that I never seem to see her any more! My husband reckons that if she keeps on like this she will be remarrying soon, but I am not so sure!
